The Tea Party boldly stated that it represented the American people and held the GOP for hostage for nearly 4 years as GOP elected officials everywhere were afraid to speak out, distance themselves from this Extremist faction , and paid homage to the Tea Party whose origins are steeped in hate and class warfare.
It assumed that it spoke for the disaffected American who was tired of the influx of minorities , and women and gays actually daring to demand equality from a nation where the Constitution guaranteed it for everyone exclusive of race, gender or sexual orientation. Expecting to be taking a victory lap on November 7, 2012 and sipping champagne on January 0,2013, instead they are licking their wounds and looking around for someone to blame for their defeat. It appears that they are now castigating the GOP for not being Conservative enough when it was their brand of Neo Conservatism and exclusion that put them in the position that they are in today, the outside looking in.
The GOP has the chance today to take back their party from the extremists, and rid themselves of the Tea Party infection like a drunken sailor on liberty rids himself of crabs with RID. The issue is, will they sieze upon it, or will they continue to allow themselves to be manipulated, cajoled and blackmailed into destroying their party?
If the Tea Party wants to run political candidates for office, they should run and fund their own, see how that works. The Tea Party as a Third Party. It would probably die out quicker than the Know Nothings or the Bull Moose Party. But either way, the opportunity is ripe for the GOP to regain some of the relevancy they lost by aligning themselves with this group of extremists, and should take this tossed gauntlet and declare war on extremism and rid themselves of the tea Party scourge once and for all.
Of course the Tea Party would blame the GOP for losing the White House, when actually it was mainly their influence on Mitt Romney and his embracing their extremist, and sometimes downright wacky positions as part of his Presidential platform. The GOP has for years to do it, and the Republican who is thinking about a White House run in 2016 should seriously examine this and decide is it worth it? Romney gambled, embraced the " Dark Side " and lost.
It's really time for the " Party of Lincoln " to perform an exorcism. They actually need Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter to cleanse their party of the scourge of the Extremist Undead.
